A New Drum Pad From Launchpad - "launcheskills"
Launchpad is one of the new wave controller keyboards that is getting rave reviews from professional DJ's around the world. It is the ultimate keyboard for creating the sounds you want with a non-traditional layout. Many professional DJ's are incorporating Launchpad into their sets because it is so easy to use and they can create great sounds with the touch of a button. But how does it perform? Here are a review of the Launchpad and what you should expect when you finally get your hands on one…
What are launchpad soundtracks? Basically, a launchpad is a rack-style keyboard for DJ's and musicians who want to expand their musical arsenal. They are created with Ableton Live (Ableton is an electronic music production software application that you can download for free online) and come with over 64 different pads which can be used for sequencing, creating effects, mixing and scratching. They are very useful for all types of DJ-style soundtracks such as vocal warm-ups, footwork and basslines, and more. All the best pads are illuminated with touch sensitivity, so you can easily see what is loaded, playing, and recording right in Ableton Live.
What are the key features of the Launchpad and what makes it so great for sequencing, creating great drum beats, playing guitar and other instruments, and seamlessly playing perfectly in-key basslines, melodies, chords and leads. There are six digital output channels with onboard effect plug-ins and one assignable patch bank. The Launchpad is equipped with an efficient USB MIDI controller which allows you to send notes, beat commands and other parameters to external software such as Cubase or Pro Tools.
Launchpad uses two knobs and two buttons to trigger and control various functions. The front of the unit has a large jog wheel and large LCD display with easy to find numbers. There are also other useful key features such as the ability to view the length of the pad and the other side of the jog wheel has a foot pedal. The side keys are used to trigger other functions such as scratching, previewing, and other functions. The Launchpad comes with two high quality cables and an extremely helpful user manual.
With the Launchpad pro, you get hands-on control of your pad through a host of digitally controlled knobs and functions including: pitch bend, sustain pedal, scratching, sending and receiving MIDI, sending and receiving samples, and a versatile collection of digital drum pads. The Launchpad pro has a wide range of pads for triggering on the front panel and a vast amount of expansion options available via its foot pedal and jog wheel. Launchpad's hardware is designed to work with a multitude of sequencer formats, including MP3, FLV, WAV and more.
At this point in time there are only a few bugs left to be ironed out before launch, but as soon as the final few bugs are ironed out, the official launch will follow. I've been using the Launchpad for a few weeks now and I'm happy with the overall performance and the hand-on control it offers. If you're looking for a new drum pad that offers great value for the money, the Launchpad is the ideal product for you. It'll be available in my next release.
